The Big Bad Wolf Gets His
He blew down houses and ate pigs. He had to be stopped.
About this newsletter: It’s devoted to short fiction, with occasional lurches into satire, social commentary, and other nonsense.
Author’s note: Let me put this post in context so my loyal readers won’t think I’ve gone completely insane…
I participated in a LinkedIn posting challenge. One of the prompts was: Share a short story. So I wrote this cautionary tale about why it pays to hire an expert.
Once upon a time there were Three Little Pigs.
A Big Bad Wolf kept blowing down their houses and trying to eat them.
The pigs decided to kill the wolf (being pigs, they had no moral scruples).
The First Little Pig said: “Leave it to me.”
He took a Do-It-Yourself approach.
He read thrillers, watched how-to clips on YouTube, and read about killers on Wikipedia.
But when he tried to kill the wolf, he made dumb amateurish mistakes and the wolf ate him.
The Second Little Pig called up ChatGPT on his phone and said: “Give me a foolproof plan on how to kill a big bad wolf.”
ChatGPT thought a nanosecond and spit out a plan.
The plan sounded great, and the pig set off with confidence.
But the wolf anticipated the pig and ate him.
You see, the wolf had ChatGPT on his phone, and he knew the app would just go to school on old murder plans and suggest the next obvious thing.
The Third Little Pig hired a professional hitman who devised an entirely original murder plan and killed the wolf.
Moral of the story: it pays to hire a specialist who employs human ingenuity and can think outside the AI box.
